 Oriental Medicine

Oriental Medicine is a comprehensive medical system that has been used to diagnose, treat, and prevent illnesses for over 3000 years.  It includes not only acupuncture, but also Chinese herbs, bodywork (Tuina), heat therapy, moxibustion, cupping, and Wholistic Kinesiology .

Oriental Medicine strengthens one physically, psychologically and emotionally to help prevent disease, control pain, soothe and alleviate chronic conditions, and enhance the quality and longevity of life.  Doctors of Oriental Medicine treat the root cause of an illness in addition to treating its associated symptoms.

The goal is to maintain or restore harmony and balance in all parts of the human being and also between the whole human being and the surrounding environment.

Wholeness = acupuncture/tuina + herbs + diet + exercise

 Acupuncture

Acupuncture boosts the stimulation of natural painkillers. It is very effective in pain management and treatment.  It can be associated with the application of pressure, heat, magnets, lasers, and electrical micro currents.

Acupuncture is the insertion of metal filiform needles - fine and sterile - into certain points, balancing the flow of oxygen and blood. Needle insertion is usually painless. These needles are about as thick as a strand of hair. You may feel a tingling, cool or warm sensation, a dull ache on the area of concern or a relaxing experience during treatment.

Acupuncture increases blood circulation to the problematic area. By stimulating nerve pathways in the body, Acupuncture reduces the inflammation, pain and restores health.

Auricular Acupuncture

Auricular acupuncture is the stimulation of the ear reflex on the external surface of the ear. This is just one of many microsystems in the body. Aside from the ear, hands or feet can be a microsystem - a map that reflects the different organs and functional systems of the body. Needles, ear seeds, magnets, and electrical micro currents can be used to stimulate the reflex points on the ear.

Auricular acupuncture can be used as a primary method to treat any health conditions or can be added with other therapies.

Electro Acupuncture

Electro Acupuncture is when needles are attached to a device that sends electrical currents or pulses into the body. The electrical current along with the needles stimulate the nervous system, promote blood circulation, relieve pain and muscle spasms, reduce inflammation, and relax the muscles. The frequency and intensity applied by the practioner depends on the patient's health condition being treated. You may experience tingling or involuntary muscle twitches as temporary effects of the electrical current going through the body.

Chinese Herbs

Chinese herbology is an intrinsic aspect of Oriental medicine.  The art and science of using these powerful botanicals, minerals, and animal products comes in knowing how to prescribe the right herb or mixture of herbs to do the job.  Herbs may be prescribed to reduce acute or chronic conditions, as a dietary supplement which will build and strengthen the body, or for maintenance and as a preventative.

Dr. Joseph only uses herbs which meet the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines.  All herbs have been tested to insure freedom from heavy metal and microbial contamination, as well as pesticide residues.

Bodywork/Tuina

Tuina, is therapeutic bodywork that combines massage, acupressure, and other forms of body, manipulation. By applying pressure along the nerve pathways and muscles, it:
  • stimulates the nervous system
  • enhances the immune system
  • improves blood circulation
  • relieves pain
  • alleviates stress
  • promotes relaxation, detoxification and rejuvenations

Heat Therapy

A TDP lamp uses a mineral plate which consists of 33 elements vital to the human body. These minerals are activated by the heating element that is built into the system, emitting far-infrared waves from 2-25 microns in wavelength that are easily absorbed by the body.

The energy emitted from the TDP lamp improves blood circulation, increases the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the cells, and helps reduce inflammation, soreness and pain. In addition, it also warms up part of the body, increases range of motion, and eliminates toxins and cellular waste.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy in which dried mugwort (also known as Artemesia vulgaris or aiye in Chinese) is burned on or near the surface of the skin. It is used to expel cold and warm up the nerve pathways, enhance blood circulation, reduce inflammation and pain, strengthen the immune system, and prevent illness and restore health.

Aromatherapy

Using natural oils (highly concentrated plant components) extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots, or other parts of plants to improve physical and psychological well being.

The receptors in your nose (for smell) transmit messages to the parts of your brain (the amygdala and hippocampus) that remember emotions and memories. When an aroma enters the nostril, it stimulates these parts of the brain and promotes mental, emotional and physical health.

Aromatherapy is used to relieve pain, promote relaxation, enhance mood, and reduce anxiety, stress and depression.

Cupping

A form of therapy in which glass cups are placed on the skin to create a suction through heat. The suction uses pressure to pull the skin, tissue and muscle upward. The tight sensation in the area of the cup is often relaxing and soothing. The suction of the cups along the nerve pathways stimulates the nervous system, promotes oxygen and blood flow to the surface and helps relieve pain. In addition, it also helps remove the toxins from the body.

Wholistic Kinesiology

Wholistic Kinesiology is a neurological test that allows you to speak to the body. By testing the quality of the muscle strength when we push against it, we can evaluate the imbalance in the nervous system and we can ask the body what it needs to retore it into optimal health.

The therapies that we utilize include nutrition (herbs, vitamins, and other supplements), emotional work such as EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), Reiki, Acupuncture, Aromatherapy, Chakra Balancing, and AIRO (Allergic/Immune Response Optimization).

NAET (Namubripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques)

NAET is composed of allopathy, acupuncture, chiropractic, kinesiology, and nutrition. Allergens are tested by using NST (Neuromuscular Sensitivity Testing) which indicates kinetic disharmony in the body caused by allergens. It is treated by stimulating the pressure points along the spine while the patient is holding the allergen. A strong NST after the treatment indicates an allergy has been eliminated. Then laser therapy or acupuncture is applied for 20 minutes to reinforce the treatment. Avoidance of the substance treated for at least 25 hours after the treatment is needed for best results. The different modalities of NAET can reprogram the brain, reset the nervous system, and remove the blockages from the nervous pathways to desensitize the allergens and return the body into its normal state.
